Please find here the link for Principles and Guidelines for Coding Fields 006, 007 and 008 at the time of data entry specially for electronic resources. Please note that these entry influence a lot your quality of data input as well as appearance of data in OPAC specially in standard software’s like Koha. Which is ignored by many LIS professionals in general.

I along with Mr. Kapil Kumar Gupta attended Workshop on Koha at DAV School, Barkakana, Ramgardh, Jharkhand from 20-22 February, 2016 as resource person. There were 30 participants from that particular DAV School zone. Some schools were using CR2 and some Mica software as they told us. we found the host institute were using cr2 on stand alone machine having one dongle provided by cr2 vendor which required to be inserted in USB drive in order to open the staff client (First time i saw that).
All the participants were very attentive and enthusiastic to learn the Koha, first time we demonstrated that how they can access there library software on Internet/Internet, how they can work from other machine and patrons can access the OPAC from other machine on intranet/internet, what is intranet/internet, host/installed computer needs to be kept always open if you wish to access OPAC/Staff client from other machine on internet/intranet and lot of basics. The lab was nicely managed by computer teachers and never felt any noise during the workshop.
On our self interest we converted their existing database from MS-Access to MARC then imported it into Koha and finally made their library accessible on entire intranet which helped participants to understand from beginning to start about the real implementation of Koha/data migrations and other efforts require it also motivated all the participants a lot and now they are thinking about implementations at their own schools.
I appeal never underestimate the school librarians because they are genius as well as fool like other librarians!

It was a nice experience to implement Koha at remote area of Jharkhand state called Madhupur. I appreciate the effort and initiative of Principal and Librarian, Madhusthali Institute of Teachers Training http://www.mitt.in/ for taking such a wonderful step for making their library automated with most modern software. Approx 4000 data and members record was successfully converted and imported into the Koha software which is now fully functional on their intranet. A demo and lecture on Koha software was also given and lot of cross question was also asked, an audience was more interested to know what is my benefit in promoting/implementing Koha for which i had no answer because answering 500/1000/1500 per day honorarium or some time free may be joke and saying its my passion may be unbelievable in the selfish world, but since she has repeatedly asked the same question so i just told it may be beneficial for my future promotions. All admins were aware about the Libsys software but not the Koha, but they have selected Koha due to some pricing issues and non satisfactory performance of known software. I am happy that i could able to give proper answer to their query related to Koha and why to use Koha in comparison to commercial software. Most interesting is my wife first time visited along with me and saw my all effort and how i worked whole day, speak continuously more than two hours and ultimately she also said i am a fool doing all without any monetary benefit but at least she is happy first time because of Koha i visited Baidyanath Dham (place of worship).
I request all to give a try on Koha and compare cost effectiveness with existing commercial ILMS .

It was nice experience to share my thoughts at JILA conference, Ranchi. The topic was “Re-engineering Public Library and Academic Library Systems in India” many papers were presented with suggestions and how to improve the existing systems. Many issues were raised to Re-engineering the existing libraries like finance, laws etc. My view and some solutions was to adopt the open source/free solutions like Koha, DSpace, eprint, joomla, zotero, etc. as well as open access resources like open access journals/books etc. to overcome some of the problems without investing much amount on that, but i felt that awareness and training on the above cost effective /free solutions is major challenge. So the LIS departments must train the students about these resources during their course of study and assign some small projects on these free solutions. The good libraries and library professionals must share their expertise among the nearby libraries and provide a platform to educate the others for successful implementations of these technologies.

Recently i visited Central Library MGAHV http://www.hindivishwa.org/contentdtl.aspx?category=13&cgid=34 for some solutions related to existing Koha library management software. I observed that the software was installed on non recommended operating system (Centos) due to which up-gradation was very difficult as well as auto backup and indexing was not working at all. Further the Koha was configured wrongly and not able to meet the present and future requirement of the Library. I took the backup but unfortunately that backup is also not working on the Koha fresh installed machine, may be due to some issues at database level. Ultimately i took all the data in MARC format anyhow and does lot of modifications in that like proper categorization of books and some corrections in data which was not done properly. My suggestions are:
1. Library should properly intimate about their present and future requirement to the vendor as well as vendors must also try to understand their requirement with the help of some LIS professionals.
2. Testing must be throughly done before final implementations.
3. If migrating from any existing system vendor must correct the data maximum at the time of data conversion/editing.
4. Proper in-house training is must before and after final Implementation, because what you feed same you get from system.
5. Inviting the experts who is having practical knowledge for suggestions before the implementation of ILMS is a nice idea which will work for forever.
The MGAHV library is very nice and peaceful to work having mostly hindi book collections along with other languages books, the environment of the whole campus is very nice and good for research and academic purpose. People at MGAHV are very calm and typical excellent Indian cultured with high academic backgrounds. I hope very soon all will enjoy their very nice Koha as per their requirements.

Few days back i put a online survey form for small survey regarding change/migration from existing Library management software to other open source software. The result indicates most of the people migrated to Koha and shifted from Libsys and other ILMS. Hence the result is very clear indicative of strength of Koha open source ILMS, so libraries who are interested for such migrations are suggested to look into the option of Koha.
Please click the link below for result of the survey and feel free to contact for implementation of the Open source software Koha, Newgenlib etc. in your libraries :

We (myself and Mr. D.P. Tripathi) have taken initiative to implement open source software like Koha, DSpace, Joomla etc. in libraries and time to time motivating for the same to library professionals. I was thinking i am doing the great job free of cost but when i saw today a Tender of renowned Institute for Just installation of Koha, data migration from SOUL/Current ILMS and little training to staffs, i shocked and realize that real heroes are those people who have given opportunity for the same to us and successfully they are running Koha. They have expended Just on our TA/DA and honorarium as per government rules and saved Lakhs of Public money.
In present case although i proposed the institute for the same task and given example of a renowned near by library where we have did the job and Koha is running successfully but even though they opted for the Commercial firm service which could be easily done by us in a much better way than any commercial firm. I do not know why they opted for the same and what is lacking from our side, however one can avail community support for installation/training on Koha and if desire later they can avail commercial support (AMC) for maintenance, by this method also they can save lakh of money on initial implementation of Koha.
I would simply like to ask a question from such Professionals that:
WILL YOU TAKE SAME DECISION IF YOU HAVE TO INVEST MONEY FROM YOUR OWN POCKET? OR WHAT DIFFICULTY YOU FACED IN INVITING ANY CAPABLE EXPERT FOR THE SAME TASKS FROM LIS COMMUNITY?
I would like to request all leaders/Decision makers of the LIS community to avail such services from LIS community it will not only save money but strengthen our library profession and reputation as well as you will be called as a good leader and decision maker in LIS domain.
