We (myself and Mr. D.P. Tripathi) have taken initiative to implement open source software like Koha, DSpace, Joomla etc. in libraries and time to time motivating for the same to library professionals. I was thinking i am doing the great job free of cost but when i saw today a Tender of renowned Institute for Just installation of Koha, data migration from SOUL/Current ILMS and little training to staffs, i shocked and realize that real heroes are those people who have given opportunity for the same to us and successfully they are running Koha. They have expended Just on our TA/DA and honorarium as per government rules and saved Lakhs of Public money.
In present case although i proposed the institute for the same task and given example of a renowned near by library where we have did the job and Koha is running successfully but even though they opted for the Commercial firm service which could be easily done by us in a much better way than any commercial firm. I do not know why they opted for the same and what is lacking from our side, however one can avail community support for installation/training on Koha and if desire later they can avail commercial support (AMC) for maintenance, by this method also they can save lakh of money on initial implementation of Koha.
I would simply like to ask a question from such Professionals that:
WILL YOU TAKE SAME DECISION IF YOU HAVE TO INVEST MONEY FROM YOUR OWN POCKET? OR WHAT DIFFICULTY YOU FACED IN INVITING ANY CAPABLE EXPERT FOR THE SAME TASKS FROM LIS COMMUNITY?
I would like to request all leaders/Decision makers of the LIS community to avail such services from LIS community it will not only save money but strengthen our library profession and reputation as well as you will be called as a good leader and decision maker in LIS domain.

I participated as resource person at IIT Roorkee in National workshop on Koha, DSpace and Joomla from 2-6 February, 2015. Everything went well and i have tried my level best to explain working of all above software’s unfortunately DSpace could not be installed due to fast and smooth Internet connectivity issues, therefore i recommend the resource persons to use Live DVD for DSpace installation during workshops and provide demo of actual installation methods, however if there is high speed LAN based internet connection than you can try direct installation method.

A simple but very useful precaution before availing RFID solutions for library so that RFID vender could not trap you in their own iron net. Always keep some samples of Library users RFID based ID card and book RFID tag from various venders and original equipment manufactures (OEM), the same iso standard cards may be requested to venders/OEM for compatibility purpose. This is very necessary as i noticed that same standard User ID card is not read by the RFID device which is supplied by other firm/OEM, it is reflecting that some malpractices may be going on behind the seen to trap you in future. So its my simple suggestion to ask the vender to demonstrate read/write capacity of RFID devices with many or same ISO standard RFID cards before final implementations.

During my recent visit to Mahatma Gandhi Antarastriya Vishwavidyalaya Wardha I am happy that Vice-chancellor of Wardha University asked me first question that “What is full form of “Koha”. I laugh and surprised also that first time non professional person is having curiosity to know Koha because i never find any professional person who asked me this question. Koha is a word used in local language of Newzeland meaning gift. It is not abbreviated word but VC asked because whenever people sent any file to him they used to write “KOHA” in capital which is wrong.
